Discover purpose, community, and the vast Siberian wilderness. Your next chapter begins in the forest.
The National Pensioner Relocation Programme offers a revolutionary approach to retirement. Set across 5.1 million square kilometres of pristine taiga forest, our retreats combine outdoor living, meaningful activity, and a supportive community of like-minded residents.
Begin Your ApplicationEach NPRP retreat is situated in the heart of the Siberian Federal District, surrounded by millions of square kilometres of unspoilt boreal forest. Three distinct regions. Three distinct experiences. All of them pine.
A vibrant community of 380 retreats set among silver birch and Siberian pine. Residents enjoy moderate terrain, excellent drainage, and proximity to the Irtysh River.
Average winter temperature: −22°C. Growing season: approximately nine weeks. Soil classification: peat bog with good subsurface drainage.
Our flagship retreat cluster, featuring 420 purpose-built sites amid dense Siberian larch forest. The region's famous dark soils support a rich ecosystem and exceptional timber yields.
Average winter temperature: −24°C. Home to the NPRP's table tennis league champions, 2024.
Set on the eastern edge of the West Siberian Plain, Pineridge Heights offers 400 retreats among the most productive Scots pine stands in the Federal District. The views are extraordinary. The horizon does not end.
Average winter temperature: −30°C. Winter clothing provided October through April. Mandatory.
Our activities programme is designed to keep residents active, engaged, and productive throughout their stay. All activities are fully supervised and contribute to the retreat's community goals.
Residents participate in sustainable timber harvesting, learning traditional felling techniques, log processing, and transport logistics. No prior experience necessary. Axes provided.
Productivity targets are advisory. The forest is patient.
Our on-site workshops offer hands-on experience in sawmill operations, plank sorting, and quality grading. Residents work at their own pace, supervised by experienced retreat staff.
Safety briefings are delivered daily. Residents are encouraged to attend at least one.
Keeping our retreats to the high standards our residents deserve. Dormitory upkeep, path clearing, snow removal, and perimeter maintenance. A wonderful way to stay active and contribute.
Snow removal is seasonal but comprehensive. October through April. Sometimes May.
Each retreat is equipped with one table tennis table per 500 residents, providing ample opportunity for casual play and our popular annual tournament. Evenings may include camp lectures, group singing, and quiet contemplation of the taiga.
The 2024 Krasnoyarsk semi-final lasted eleven hours. Both players declined to comment afterwards.
Our accommodation is designed for simplicity, durability, and warmth. Each retreat lodge is constructed from locally sourced Siberian timber by the residents who came before you. Three tiers of accommodation are available, assigned upon arrival.
For residents capable of full forestry duties. The retreat experience at its most invigorating.
For residents preferring a gentler routine. Still very much in the forest.
For residents requiring full care. The forest respects everyone equally.
Each retreat is equipped with medical facilities and trained staff. The pristine Siberian air alone is considered beneficial. We are required by law to tell you that it is not.
Each retreat maintains a basic medical station staffed during daylight hours. A visiting physician attends fortnightly. Emergency evacuation is available by sledge during winter months and by road during the remaining six weeks.
Hearty communal meals are provided three times daily, featuring locally sourced ingredients. The diet is rich in complex carbohydrates and root vegetables. Residents with specific dietary requirements are encouraged to bring a 12-month supply in their 23 kg case.
Winter clothing is issued to all residents from October through April. Average temperatures range from −20°C to −36°C depending on the region. Adequate clothing is essential for both welfare and productivity. Frostbite is considered a medical event and will be recorded in the retreat log.
Resident mortality is monitored closely and maintained within acceptable projections. The Hadrian Institute's most recent assessment rated the risk of mortality exceeding projections as "Low impact." Families will be notified within 28 working days.
We asked. They answered. Some of them enthusiastically.
I've never felt more productive. Every morning I wake up and there is a tree, and by the afternoon it is not a tree anymore. That is a feeling you cannot get in Eastbourne.
The community is wonderful. We sing in the evenings. Sometimes the guards join in. The table tennis table has a slight warp but you get used to it after nine months.
I was worried about the cold. I am no longer worried about the cold. I am no longer worried about anything. The forest is very, very quiet.
I spent forty years in an office in Nuneaton. I now spend my days beneath an infinite sky, sorting timber by hand. I cannot go back. Literally. There is no transport arranged.
Submitting an application is straightforward. There is no fee. There is also no appeals process. Processing takes 8 to 22 months depending on transportation logistics.
Applications are processed by the Hadrian Institute, Nuneaton. The Institute's mission is to apply rigorous quantitative analysis to policy questions, regardless of whether anyone has asked it to do so.
